Pace of Play Tips

Updated: Aug 13, 2020

Golf is more enjoyable when played in an efficient manner.  When playing in a group of 3 or 4 people it should take less than 2 hours for 9 holes and under 4hrs for 18 holes. It is advised to stay within 2 full shots distance of the group in front of you. Here are some tips to help with your pace of play;

  • Play ready golf – Walk to your ball, assess your shot and select your club while other players are having the shots. This applies on the green whilst putting also.

  • marking your card - Always mark your card while awaiting your turn at the tee.

  • Routine - Get into a routine of only one or two practice swings prior to hitting your shot.

  • Lost balls – You are allowed 3 minutes to look for lost balls. It is advisable to play a “provisional ball” (golf ball with a different number or marking on it) if you suspect your ball may be lost or out of bounds. If you need to return to the tee to play another ball and the group behind is waiting allow them to play through.

  • The flagstick-  players must choose to have the flag stick in or out. (new Rules of Golf)

  • Parking carts and trundlers – Always place your trundler or bag to the side of the green on the way to the next tee.
